A lightning storm, a rooftop margarita, and a reminder that magic finds the ones who make space for it.

I want to tell you about my recent experience in Bangkok and what it taught me about luck. I’d just arrived in Bangkok after a long day of travel, I’d been up since 3:30am, it was the kind of day that leaves you feeling wrung out and ready for bed.

We’d had a beautiful dinner, gone to a Michelin guide restaurant that does upmarket versions of authentic Thai street food. It was lovely and I had eaten a lot of delicious food and all I wanted was to curl up and sleep.

But our hotel had a rooftop bar that overlooked the heart of the city, all glittering lights and movement and even though I was exhausted, I thought: When will I ever be here in Bangkok again, staying in a gorgeous hotel with a rooftop bar?

So, we went.

As the elevator doors opened, we were greeted by the warm, humid air and a breathtaking view of Bangkok at night. And just as we stepped out, the sky lit up, a full-blown lightning show stretched across the horizon. No thunder, just streaks of lightning and clouds lighting up like lamps.

For half an hour, we sipped margaritas and stood there in awe, watching the lightning bolts dance through the clouds, feeling the power and beauty of this world and feeling like this super magical moment was just for us.

And all I could think was:

I almost missed this.

If I’d given in to my tiredness, if I’d chosen comfort over curiosity, I would’ve missed this magical moment. 

That night reminded me of something I’ve come to deeply believe — luck, opportunities, and miracles find the people who create space for them.

I love a cozy Netflix night as much as anyone, but I know that if I make that my default, the dreams I’m trying to manifest have a much harder time finding me.

This year, I’ve been saying yes — to the slightly uncomfortable, the spontaneous, the things that stretch me just a bit.

And time and time again, the Universe has met me there — with beauty, synchronicity, and experiences that feel like pure magic.
